Having been frustrated throughout the morning session, South Africa were now dominant and unfortunate not to claim another breakthrough in the next over.Attempting to get off the mark, Pietersen pushed Steyn to mid-on and set off for a quick single but would have been run out had Ntini hit the stumps at the non-striker's end.Pietersen was also fortunate five overs later when he misread a short delivery from Steyn which rattled his helmet but rolled wide of the stumps as he crashed to the floor. He recovered his composure sufficiently to reach an unbeaten 13 at tea while Bell, whose continued presence in the England side is under threat, moved to an 33 not out.
